The Wood Family

Sparks flew in Yosemite during the spring of 1984. Michael’s eyes captured Rhonda’s across a crowded room. Over glasses of wine, conversation turned into connection and a lifelong relationship ensued.

Their first home in Fremont overlooked Weibel Vineyards, where dreams of owning a vineyard first took root. At their second home they planted 18 vines, but before these vines reached maturity, Michael and Rhonda discovered Crane Ridge Vineyards in Livermore Valley. They purchased the property with 14 acres of  vines, renamed it One Oak Vineyard, and built their dream home. From that foundation, Wood Family Vineyards was born, officially opening its doors in 2000. For 17 years, the winery thrived entirely from their estate before expanding to the current Research Drive location, where the Tasting Room opened in June 2017.

Today, Wood Family Vineyards remains a true family-run business. Rhonda, a former airline pilot turned head winemaker, can often be found visiting with guests in the Tasting Room. Michael, once a CFO, manages the finances and proudly enjoys the fruits of their labor … especially the award-winning Chardonnay. Their oldest son, Harrison, serves as Executive VP, overseeing operations, while their youngest, Parker, works as a Tasting Room Ambassador and event support.

At its heart, Wood Family Vineyards is about more than wine—it’s about family, friends, and celebrating life.

At Wood Family Vineyards, guests experience the perfect balance of excellence and ease. Each glass highlights the family’s passion for winemaking, while the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere invites visitors to laugh, connect, and savor the moment. Whether stopping by to explore award-winning vintages or to enjoy a laid-back afternoon with friends, guests will discover a place that feels like home and soon find they are a part of the extended family.
