2015 Petite Verdot
Harvested from the Ghielmetti Vineyards in the North East hills of Livermore Valley . The vineyard is situated on a sloped, alluvial bench with well-draining, “outwash” shaly loam soils.
The vineyard was laid out specifically to take advantage of the changes in elevation and the six different soil types comprising the site, with varieties and rootstocks carefully selected to match the micro terroir specifically for Bordeaux varietals.
Purple glints highlight the garnet color of this wine. There is a juxtaposition in the first aromatic impression: a sweet milk chocolate covering piquant pomegranate. Delve deeper and you get earthy wild flowers and warm baked earth. The palate bursts into your mouth with tart flavors of black current and pomegranate jam. There is also a perception of savory red and black fruits; like red and black plums grilled and sprinkled with salt. Round, moderate tannins are perceived along with a juicy acidity. The finish is reminiscent of summer days eating my mom’s plum fruit leather along with a hint of toast from the oak aging.
